CHAPTER
We were incorporated in 1979 in part as a member of the United Way of Leeds and Grenville. As a Girls Incorporated member organization, we continue to be the leading provider of services to girls and young women in Leeds and Grenville. Our membership and Board of Directors chose Girls Incorporated as our umbrella organization because of its close fit in philosophy, programs, and mission. We look for ongoing opportunities to reach girls in every community.
As Girls Incorporated of Upper Canada, we remain committed to being the community leader of girls' services through mentoring, one-to-one matching, and quality programming.
LOCATION
Leeds and Grenville (L&G) is located in the picturesque Southeastern region of Ontario, Canada, and is the historic region of coverage for our organization. According to the 2001 Statistics Canada census, the region's population stood at 96,606. L&G is one of the most dynamic areas in all of Eastern Ontario. Modern industrial and high-tech development is situated right beside traditional rural Ontario. Our offices are located in Brockville, the region's largest city home to 21,375 of our area's population (as stipulated in the 2001 Statistics Canada census) with a spectacular view of the historic St. Lawrence River along its southern most boundary.
Lanark-Carleton County is located adjacent to Ottawa, in the heart of Canada's high-tech region and offers an abundance of serviced land providing an alternative to large urban centres. According to the 2001 Statistics Canada census, the region's population stood at 138,398. The united counties of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, often called the Montreal-Ottawa Connection, are located at the most eastern point of Ontario. According to the 2001 Statistics Canada census, the
region's population stood at 103,922.
