  SPORTING CHANCESM
This is a comprehensive program is designed to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and positive lifestyle choices in girls and young women. The majority of girls in our program are at risk of poor nutrition, poor eating habits, lack of confidence, low self esteem, poor social skills, or the inability to access public sports/activity opportunities due to economic restraints or lack of family support.

Sporting Chancesm consists of six segmented programs each with a slightly different focus:

  • Adventure Girls: [ detailed information is forthcoming ].

  • Bridges: A skills development program for adolescent girls. It is designed to promote a variety of motor skills that can be applied to various sports. By developing competence in sport skills, girls expand their opportunities for lifelong involvement in vigourous activities. All girls regardless of their abilities or disabilities are welcome over its 60 hours of incorporated activities.

  • Futures and Options: [ detailed information is forthcoming ].

  • Hitting the Court: All girls ages 6 to 9 are invited to get active by coming once a night for eight weeks to play newcomb ball. Girls will have the chance to learn new skills and techniques to enhance their own style on the court. Coached by Ruth Drache, this program is offered through the Brockville and Area YMCA.

  • Serving It Up: All girls ages 10 and up are invited to get active by coming once a night for five weeks to play volleyball. Girls will have the chance to learn new skills and techniques to enhance their own style on the court. Coached by Ruth Drache, this program is offered through the Brockville and Area YMCA.

  • Steppingstones: A motor skill development program for young girls designed to promote skillful body movement and health related fitness, it is delivered in 24 sequential sessions.

  • Yoga Buds: All girls ages 6 to 18 are invited to join a once-a-week, six-week program that relaxes and energizes, but also increases self confidence, expands self awareness expression, and provides physical exercise. This program is offered by Webster who will teach yoga postures, relaxation methods, basic anatomy incorporating yoga games, art, literature, journaling, music and songs.
